Deptford Cinema continue their short season of films themed on Latin American Journeys on Wednesday 6th July with LIVERPOOL, an enigmatic art house road movie from Argentina.
From one of the world’s most renowned art house directors a film that journeys to the southern tip of Argentina. Dominated by a wintry landscape as a sailor returns to his home and estranged family, Liverpool is all about the journey, and the desire to return, but it offers no easy resolution.
Liverpool is a road movie at the genre’s most austere and refined edge, a finely calibrated investigation of solitude and landscape. A newly disembarked sailor travels through the frigid landscape of Tierra del Fuego to revisit his past.
The mesmerizing tale of a son long forgotten and a daughter abandoned unfolds slowly, as the sailor reaches the harsh, forbidding settlement that is his destination.
